Tomorrow, Monday, November 16, 2020, another appointed date with Sadiq & The Guru at Lagos Talks 91.3 FM, shall come slightly different, not on the timing and other features, but strictly on the presentation. The program is coming live, as usual, and the timing remains, from 0930 to 1100 hours, as always. The slight difference in presentation shall represent the oddity of life, in every sphere of human endeavours, which the Nigerian Nation presently stands for.
The tripod governmental structures, which the Nigerian Statehood stands upon – Federal, State and Local governments, have all collapsed into oddity of oblivion. This collapse leaves the country effectively in the balance of unreasonableness – a sort of irretrievable journey into the abyss of ruinous hellish benchmark.
We operated a government that thrived in tactical deceit at a time in the past. That was the era that government officials would weigh the consequences of the lies they intended telling the people before they ventured out with their utterances. There was, yet, a little honour amongst Nigerian dealers parading themselves as Nigerian leaders of that era. Sometimes, talking of then, our leaders felt, that they owe the followership some responsibility, an obligation and even a duty, of redecorating the mixed-grill. They felt like limiting lies they would tell the people because there was a little conscience with the leaders, so it seemed.
But today’s Nigeria has said goodbye to “those manageable days of half-truths”. We, Nigerians, are now in an era where leaders don’t owe the followership anything. They rule over us fraudulently, telling us gullible lies, dealing with us ruthlessly – all with the impunity of aying something of like – what can they do. It is sad but this is the reality of our times. Are you in doubt of these veracities? Let us check out a few things, and the nearest and quickest way to start should be on the platform of #EndSARS protest by the Nigerian gallant Youths.
Nigerian Youth came out brilliantly and eruditely, on October 8, 2020, with a most perfectly, and neatly packaged protest against unreformed Police Force; a Force specially and specifically represented by the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad [FSARS – loosely called SARS], calling for an end to SARS brutality against the Nigerian citizenry.
The protest did not just stop at calling on the government to end SARS and its brutality, but demanded from the government total reformation of the Police Force – a reformation, which if implemented, would benefit serving personnel of the Police Force [because the available truth today is that policemen and officers are serving under substandard human conditions] than even the Youths that went out protesting.
The peaceful protest; where protesters – NOT THE SPONSORED HOODLUMS, held only to two items, to wit: holding of the Nigerian National Flag and singing of the Nigerian National Item, was brought to a disastrous end by the Nigerian State machinery of coercion, and even of higher brutality than that ever exhibited by SARS. And this happened on Tuesday, October 20, 2020; a date that has gone down as Nigeria’s Dark Tuesday.
The world stirred, while Nigerians raged. How could a country murder its youths in such cold-blooded manner? Where was national conscience and consciousness? While the world wait to hear from the governments on what exactly happened, we started hearing different stories – stories that defiantly confronted truths from different organs of government at different levels. Let us have benefit of few of those lies from level of leadership.
Just yesterday, November 14, 2020, while testifying before the Lagos State Judicial Panel of Enquiry and Restitution for Victims of SARS related abuse and other matters, probing the Lekki shooting incident, Brigadier General Ahmed Taiwo; the Commander of 81 Military Intelligence Brigade, Victoria Island had this to say:
“I spoke with the governor and said the Army was unhappy that he said he did not ask for Army’s intervention but l am sure that after you watched everything [Video footages], you saw he had more than enough grounds to ask for Army’s intervention; perhaps it was the way everything went.” He added that the “Army was also unhappy that Sanwo-Olu said two persons died from the military engagement at the Lekki tollgate.”
The totality of what the One-Star Army General said was that the Executive Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu told Nigerians lie. That must be very good of the General in telling Nigerians the truth – nothing but the truth. The Governor of Lagos State should stop telling us lies next time he wants to tell us something.
There is a question that the Nigerian Army, maybe, through this same Brigadier General Ahmed Taiwo, must answer. Did the Army lie to Nigerians; at one time or the other, or not? We must not forget in hurry that the Nigerian Army’s first response to the allegation of shooting at protesters at the Lekki Tollgate Plaza, was emphatic denial – saying the Nigerian Army was never there.
Then the conversation of types of bullets used – blank or live – came under discussion from the Army, in addition to why the Army refused those medical Ambulances that came to take those shot and injured to the hospital.
The conclusion, derivable from this short intervention is that Lagos State Governor told Nigerians lie [or lies] and the Nigerian Army told Nigerians lie [or even lies]. Who else amongst government functionaries is not telling Nigerians lie [on daily basis]?
Which government do we run in Nigeria therefore? Is it government of democracy which is by the people and for the people? Or is it government of fraudsters for fraudster by fraudsters? Or could it be government of liars by liars and for liars?
With the episode of the Nigerian Youths uprising, our system of democracy is being redefined.
This is part of what makes tomorrow’s Sadiq & The Guru slightly different. I sincerely hope you will enjoy it as you stay tuned to Lagos Talks 91.3 FM.
Oh, lest l forget, there is much more than this discussion as we shall be having a quest; a lawyer of repute – Barrister Honesty Eguridu Esq, who shall be telling us about the unconstitutionality of the CBN’s latest action in freezing #EndSARS protesters’ bank accounts. Your Historical Perspective and Knowledge Dropbox await you also.
