Tomorrow’s Adu & The Guru at Lagos Talks 91.3 FM, which is between 0930 – 1100 hours, shall be dedicated to the memory of a young Nigerian; gruesomely murdered by known merchants of death while serving his fatherland.
Godwin Obasi; a Chief Law Enforcement Traffic Assistant, with the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), went to work on March 16, 2021, as usual, doing his work of decongesting traffic as at the Anthony Area of Lagos, when death came knocking, as he was attacked by commercial vehicles (Danfo) drivers and hacked to death. It all happened in the afternoon of that horrible day.
His offense? He was accused of apprehending one commercial bus that blocked free flow of traffic on that ever busy road. Godwin Obasi was attacked with machete and was cut severally.
He died try to control traffic in Lagos. He was killed by group of commercial vehicle drivers for doing what he was employed to do.
It is for this reason that l am dedicating my entire program tomorrow to his memory, because l have come to recognize him as one of Nigerian National heroes – he died serving fatherland.
Ladies and gentlemen, let us rise and observe 2 minutes of silence for the soul of Godwin Obasi; born on May 15, 1984 and died on March 16, 2021, please.
May his killers never go unpunished!
Now, let us periscope some of the issues to be tackled tomorrow, by the grace of God.
Which other place is better for our starting point than reminiscing on revelations made by a retired Army Officer who admitted that “troops lack proper arms to fight”.
The Nation Newspaper that reported the story did not mention the name of the officer, but every pronouncement made by the man was from the “inner room of facts”. Listen to a few of his revelations.
“Due to lack of sufficient and right equipment, arms and ammunition, troops have witnessed a situation when 35 Boko Haram fighters displaced 500 soldiers”, before adding that “l was part of Operation Lafiya Dole, our troops have insufficient equipment, arms and ammunition, and the tanks you see are old”. Listen to another thing he said:
“In terms of logistics, there is no army in the world that fights using soft-skin vehicles. Instead of using these Hilux vehicles, we should deploy Mines Resistance Armoured Personnel Carrier (MRAPC) that will resist fire. Dane guns can pierce through Hilux. No Army uses that. If you enter mines with Hilux, the mines will tear everything into pieces, including soldiers”.
The man collaborated the allegations made against the recently retired Service Chiefs by the National Security Adviser (NSA) to the President; Major General (rtrd) Babagana Monguno, who alleged that the newly appointed Service Chiefs did not see weapons purchased by their predecessors nor was the monies allocated for the purchase.
According to this retired Army Officer, all the new equipment you see with the Nigerian military fighting Boko Haram insurgents as of now were just delivered 3 months ago and they are even inadequate.
You need to listen to him to appreciate how much the retired Service Chiefs ripped off Nigerians, under the supervision of President Muhammadu Buhari.
Another retired Major General of the Nigerian Army; General Umahi, added another angle to the maladies of bad Service Chiefs that took Nigeria to the cleaners, when he said that “ex- service chiefs didn’t work together to tackle insecurity”. Keep a date with us tomorrow at Lagos Talks 91.3 FM if you want to know the details.
Sheikh Ahmad Abubakar Gumi is back with authority in enforcing his conviction, insisting that “Bandits won’t surrender until they are granted amnesty”. Don’t forget that the Sheikh has said that the Fulani herdsmen-killers are not criminals but “a people fighting for ethnic nationality freedom”.
Don’t ever think that Gumi is not telling you the heart of the federal government because according to him, “l am always meeting with the bandits in the forests with ‘government officials’”.
There are more exclusive properties of The Guru waiting for you tomorrow. These are in addition to the Historical Perspective, Periscope and the Knowledge Dropbox – all collectors’ copies.
I am bringing to the studio tomorrow morning the General Manager of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA); Mr Olajide Oduyoye, all for the honour of his slain officer – Godwin Obasi. Lagos people need to be reminded about the rules and regulations of traffic management.
